Before you register

Your business name must match. Exactly.

The most common reason a SAM.gov registration stalls is a legal name that does not match IRS records. Here is how to get it right.

  1. Find your IRS noticeYour CP 575 (EIN confirmation) or a 147C verification letter shows the exact name the IRS has on file.
  2. Compare it letter by letterCheck your state registration too. Punctuation, spacing and endings such as LLC, L.L.C., Inc and Inc. all count.
  3. Use your legal name, not your DBATrade names and brand names do not belong in the legal name field.
  4. Enter that exact name in SAM.govIf the names do not match, fix them at the source first, then register.

The number one reason SAM.gov registrations stall is a business name that does not match. When you register, SAM.gov checks your legal business name and EIN against IRS records. The name on your IRS CP 575 notice, the letter you received when your EIN was issued, is the one to match. And match means exactly. A missing comma, or Inc with or without a period, can cause a mismatch. Your state registration should show that same legal name. Use your legal name, never your trade name or DBA. Before you register, find your CP 575 or request a 147C letter from the IRS. Compare the name with your state record, letter by letter. Then type that exact name into SAM.gov. If the names do not match, fix them at the source first. Need a second pair of eyes? Aveve Express can review your paperwork before you submit.

FAQ

Questions we hear most

Is SAM.gov registration really free?

Yes. Registering at SAM.gov costs nothing, and the government does not charge a fee for it. You can do it yourself. Our fee pays for our time preparing your information, helping you avoid common mistakes, and managing the steps. Be cautious of any company that suggests the fee goes to the government.

What are a UEI and a CAGE code?

A UEI (Unique Entity ID) identifies your business in federal systems and is assigned through SAM.gov. A CAGE code is a five-character identifier for entities that register in SAM.gov. Agencies and prime contractors use both when they review a business.

How long will it take?

It depends on your state, the IRS, SAM.gov’s review process, and how quickly you send us information. We will give you a realistic estimate after we see your details. We cannot guarantee a date, because the agencies control their own processing.

Do I need an EIN?

Most businesses use an EIN as their taxpayer ID when they register on SAM.gov. The IRS issues EINs at no charge. We prepare your application and guide you through it, and you review and approve everything before it goes in.

Can you register my business in my state?

We support business registration filings in any U.S. state. Requirements and filing fees vary by state, and the fees are paid to the state.

Will registration get me a contract?

No. Registration makes your business eligible to be considered for federal opportunities. Winning contracts depends on many things, and we do not promise awards.

Do you need my Social Security number or bank details?

Not on this website. If a later step requires sensitive information, we will tell you exactly why and use a secure method, never a plain email or web form.

Is this legal or tax advice?

No. Aveve Express is a consulting company, not a law firm or a tax practice. For legal or tax questions, please speak with a licensed attorney or tax professional.
